influencing movies

influencing movies and styles
We quite like the style of Quentin Tarantino and have recognised a few of his movies as influencing.
Pulp fiction is a dark crime film which is stylish and modern yet retro; it is often referred to as a neo-noir by critics. There are a number of stories that occur within the film which are shown in a random order which makes the audience question certain which are then explained later when the characters involved stories are shown. The film is based around gangsters and organised crime as the character that links the characters and their stories together is a gangster boss called Marsellus. The film is known for its use of extensive dialogue and element of humour in a dark situation.
This dark gangster influence is what we are looking to include in our own movie, we would also like to capture the sense of modern retro style which is in pulp fiction, we also like the idea of having a number of different characters that are linked
Another movie is Kill Bill which has the same sort of modern retro style and also. In the opening 2 minutes of the movie it is shot in black and white and shows the main character bloodied as she has taken a beating. This is quite similar to our idea as we have thought about using black and white in our own opening scene, we also want the opening scene to involve violence of a gang nature which makes this scene in particular quite useful as a source of inspiration.
Another film that is quite influential is the film reservoir dog that is another dark gangster movie that the same retro feel that we’d like to incorporate into our movie it is also about crime and stylish violence which is very much what we are going for in our own movie.
